 It was a simpler time when all of the joys, pleasures, and crises in the family and neighborhood were centered around or solved on the “front porch.” From whippings to bible studies, it all took place there. For you see, back in the 1940s in the North Carolina foothills, where the nearest neighbor was miles away, a man could just sit and watch and listen in silence. Imagine cooking, education, and courtship a-flurry with nothing but the mating call of the whippoorwills in the ear. This is the life of Uncle Ike and his family, the characters that make up the poignant one-act produced by T’Afo Arts. Using the installation exhibit, “Southern Comfort,” and accompanying down-home antiques, the “Front Porch” cast delivers a performance full of songs and laughter. “Front Porch Reflections” has already traveled around the region for encore presentations.
