About T'Afo
T’Afo Feimster is a native of Scotts, NC but has lived in Charlotte, NC for 30 years. He is a 1973 graduate of North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC and a 1992 IBM retiree. Currently, he is self-employed as a full time artist and cultural educator. He is the self taught artist, owner and director of T’Afo Arts, and co-founder of A.D.E.P.T. Artist, Inc., a non-profit organization whose mission is to assist in the development of emerging artists.

T’Afo’s art career started in his early childhood with sketched drawings of various subjects. In the years that followed, he matured and developed his talent into very impressive art forms. His first painting was born in 1970. Since then, he has mastered many different techniques, creating a wide variety of canvasses. His spiritual nature, driven by a deep and sensitive desire to create, has inspired and motivated him to be the diverse artist that he is today.

Painter

As a painter, T'Afo uses a variety of mediums, preferring oils, however. Many of his ideas are formulated into an art style he has coined as “Abreal," a combination of abstract and realism.

Sculptor

As a sculptor, T’Afo has created a line of sculpturines depicting musicians, dancers and other figures. He uses various types of wood including rich exotic wood from Africa and the Caribbean.

Wood Turner

T’Afo uses a technique called “turning” to create unique wood art. This is an old technique used over the centuries for shaping wood on a machine called a lathe.

Educator

In addition to exhibiting and selling his art, T’Afo conducts workshops on his art forms. As a cultural educator, he conducts classes on Black History and the Kwanzaa Celebration. Curator

T’Afo has been co-curator of all of his exhibits over the years and is currently the curator of Avaunt~Virtu Gallery in NoDa Charlotte, NC.

Playwright/Actor

As a playwright, he has written several performances over the years. His current performance piece is entitled "Front Porch Reflections." This piece is made up of several vignettes reflecting memorable times of his life growing up in rural North Carolina. For the current performance schedule, click on Performance above.


T'Afo's philosophy is, "One should make life, as we know it, experiential. Experience all that you are or think that you are. You are the point of power and the world revolves around you. As you think, so are your experiences. You experience your consciousness. This is the power and gift of life that you have. You make your world!"
